I have been an LPN for 10 years do I need to re-take any classes?
Pharmacology 215 must be taken within the last 7 years; all other required nursing courses must be completed from an approved LPN program with a satisfactory grade of a “C” or better.
I have my LPN license but not all my core classes transferred over, do I need to re-take those classes?
Yes, to graduate with an associate degree in nursing, students will need the required number of credits and hours to graduate.
My GPA doesn’t meet the requirement of 2.75 for completed prerequisite courses and my overall GPA is below 2.5; can I still apply and be accepted?
Your local institution can help to review your transcripts and develop a plan for you to become qualified for the ADN program.
What is the preadmission examination?
The ATI PN Comprehensive Predictor. The program requires an individual composite score which equals a predicted probability of passing the NCLEX-PN of 92%.
What if I don’t achieve the 92%, can I re-take the test?
Applicants who achieve a score of less than 92% predicted probability on the first attempt will be required to wait 30 days before retaking the predictor after remediating on the topics they failed. You have two attempts to pass during each application period.
I applied to the ADN program last year, took the comprehensive predictor and passed. Life happened and I wasn’t able to attend nursing school then but I want to apply again this year, do I need to re-take the test?

Yes, any applicant born outside of the United States or Canada for whom English is not their native language or have not attended 4 years of U.S. High school and achieved a HS GPA of 3.0 or higher must meet additional language proficiency requirements for admission to the program. English as a second language (ESL) applicants must achieve minimum scores on the TOEFL internet-based test (86 Combined; minimum individual scores of 26 Speaking, 20 Writing, 20 Reading, and 20 Listening) OR the Duolingo English Test scores (115 minimum overall score; with a content score of 90 in each of the following: Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing)
I am taking classes at a college location and see some of my instructors are from other parts of the state. Will they travel to my location for class?
The Dakota Nursing Program selects instructors who have a background in the course content.
For example, for the maternal newborn course, there is an instructor at Lake Region State College and one at Williston State College who have worked in Obstetrics. Those faculty will teach you about the care of mothers and babies over the Teams Meeting Room technology. They can see you and you can see them on the monitors in the classroom. There are speakers and microphones so you can hear them, and they can hear you ask questions or make comments as well. This is the same model we use for foundations of nursing, health assessment, medical surgical nursing, and mental health nursing. Sometimes the faculty will be at your location if you are on the main campus and sometimes, they will be on the monitor in your classroom.
Each of our courses are built this way. It is an advantage to be able to have the expertise the faculty have in different topics to students across the state.
